Lauren Cooper, PhD, MPH, D(ABMM): Laboratory Director

Lauren Cooper, PhD, MPH, D(ABMM), brings fellowship-trained expertise in clinical microbiology and molecular diagnostics to laboratory leadership. She holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University at Albany, SUNY, and an MPH in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology from the University of Michigan and completed an ASM-accredited fellowship in Medical and Public Health Microbiology at Indiana University. She is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology.

Her background spans CLIA laboratory directorship, epidemiology, scientific affairs leadership in microbiology and molecular diagnostics within industry, and active participation in CLSI standards development covering laboratory automation, informatics, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. That combination of regulatory fluency, technical depth in molecular and culture-based diagnostics, and quality-systems experience supports the rigor required of laboratory operations in a specialty fungal diagnostics environment.

As MiraVista’s Laboratory Director, she guides strategic planning and execution for Clinical Services, working to ensure the lab’s diagnostic testing consistently meets practitioners’ needs through regulatory compliance, quality systems, staff training, and responsive customer and clinical consultation. Her responsibilities include keeping the laboratory in compliance with CLIA and CAP requirements; overseeing the proficiency testing program and corrective-action process; leading the implementation of new tests and services; and identifying opportunities for efficiency and automation. She also provides guidance on FDA clinical trial design and study execution to support FDA compliance for MiraVista’s IVD program, provides oversight of physician education content and collaborates with physicians and outside laboratories on new test development.
