Antibody Detection

ELISA Testing of Serious Fungal Infections

Antibody ELISAs detect host immune responses by measuring pathogen-specific immunoglobulins in serum. Fungal antigens are coated on the test surface, and patient antibodies bind if present. A secondary enzyme-linked reagent generates a signal, allowing assessment of prior exposure or active immune response to fungal pathogens.

Immunodiffusion (Precipitin Test) of Serious Fungal Infections

Immunodiffusion is a gel-based method in which fungal antigens and patient antibodies diffuse toward each other, forming visible precipitin lines when they meet at zones of equivalence. While less sensitive than ELISA, this technique provides confirmatory evidence of antibody specificity and remains a valuable tool in fungal serology.
