Molecular Detection (PCR) of Serious Fungal Infections

Polymerase chain reaction amplifies fungal DNA or RNA extracted from clinical specimens. Through repeated thermal cycling, target sequences are exponentially copied and detected, often in real time with fluorescent probes. This method offers high sensitivity and specificity and provides more confirmed differentiation of fungal pathogens directly from patient samples.
